The Houston real estate market closed out 2009 with a more realistic snapshot of local conditions, ending three months of sales readings that appeared high compared to Hurricane Ike’s crippling effects on housing in the fall of 2008.

According to the latest monthly data compiled by the Houston Association of Realtors, December volume of single-family home sales across the greater Houston area dipped 2.1 percent compared to December 2008. That represents the first decline since last August. Total December property sales were flat on a year-over-year basis, HAR reports.

After a late lunch yesterday afternoon, Fabian and I toured the beautiful new Texas French Home showhouse in the new Place des Vosges development by the Butler Brothers. I knew I would really like it as soon as I found out that all of the furnishings are from Mecox Gardens, the lighting is from Circa Lighting, and the art is from Gremillion & Co.

The 5,900 square foot, $2.2 million dollar home has all of the features you would expect from a home of this caliber and more. Careful attention to every detail was paid by Bo and Scott Butler who designed and built the home along with sixteen other homes in this exclusive development…

A Houston builder is bringing a French accent to Uptown Park with a new super-upscale residential community.

Butler Brothers is planning a $25 million gated community, dubbed Place des Vosges, that will feature 17 French-inspired custom homes on a U-shaped street that is sandwiched between South Post Oak Lane and the Uptown Park complex just along the 610 Loop. The homes will range in price from $1.4 million to $2.2 million.

The street that will house Place Des Vosges, S. Wynden Drive, has historically been an exclusive residential area lined with older single-family homes on oversized lots. But that is all starting to change as more land in the area is acquired by investors and developers.

Butler Brothers estimates show that it has been about 10 years since a new community has been built in the area. The nearby Wynden Oak Estates, which includes 26 single-family homes, was built in 1997. The median home appraisal for that neighborhood is $770,213, according to the Houston Association of Realtors.
